Aldinga Beach Children’s Centre was officially opened on the 8th of April 2015.
A traditional Kaurna smoking ceremony & welcome to country was initially observed, creating a peaceful atmosphere of inclusion & understanding. Then, dignitaries, guests, and families of the children were welcomed by Ms Anne Millard, executive director of Preschool and School Improvement, DECD, and Centre director Ms Jane Moore.
Attendees were also treated to a special performance by the children of the Centre and the B-7 school. The children sang ‘I am Australian’ and also the cheeky ‘Monkey in the teapot’.
The Hon. Susan Close, Minister for Education & Child Development; and Mr Chris Picton, the Member for Kaurna completed proceedings with the unveiling of a commemorative plaque.
As Mr Picton pointed out, having the Children’s Centre official opening 1 year after its completion meant that an explanation of the services the Centre would provide was not necessary – the proof was in its significant achievements already. Aldinga Beach Children’s Centre is not only an innovative & environmentally sustainable facility providing early childhood development & parenting services, it is a place of nurturing and inspiration for the entire community, offering a wide range of successful programs, with participation from caring non-profit organisations, agencies, & a diverse variety of community groups.
The outdoor learning areas and landscaping have been applauded and are an integral part of the facility providing an environment that nurtures growth and respect for nature and others.
