Bringing people back to the foreshore was considered key to reinvigorating the local area. As a critical part of a four-step rejuvenation strategy, the Christies Beach to Port Noarlunga Foreshore revitalisation aimed to invite and increase foot traffic and provide a destination for adult and younger members of the community.
The addition of a large viewing deck, themed play space, inclusion of public art and feature lighting all combined to create an immersive and inviting setting for community and family use. However, the integration and thinking behind the key design elements set the project up for success by ensuring the pieces were not conceived in isolation. Creating pedestrian priority by narrowing the road invited people along contemporary paving, past custom shelters to the upgraded Rotary Park, smoothing the transition between the urban precinct and the foreshore and beach.
Bringing people and two disparate environments closer together
