Ongpin Chinatown Streetscape
Project OverviewProject Overview
Location Binondo, Manilla, Philippines
Considered the oldest Chinatown in the world, the project evaluates the community’s urban clutter that leads to discovery of cultures dating back to time immemorial that were diffused and now part of the everyday lives of the community. It encompasses the visual aspect of Ongpin streetscape, its space, visual appearance, materials used and the like.
The project involves standardisation of symbolic street elements which distinguish the streetscape’s cultural identity. One major consideration is to revitalize the historical street of Ongpin in Binondo, where the church, plaza, prominent arches, bridges and monuments are located.
