Redeveloping therapeutic landscapes

Project OverviewProject Overview

Client Riverland General Hospital / State Government of South Australia

Scope concept design, detail & documentation, contract administration

Location Berri, South Australia

Collaborations GHD Woodhead

Year 2011 - 2014

We employed best practice in therapeutic garden design to the redevelopment of Berri Hospital. Patients seeking respite and recovery from various conditions and treatments are able to surround themselves in gardens and spaces adorned with fragrant plants and flowers.

Self-sufficient and low maintenance, local plant life was selected not only for its favourable water-wise rating but also for its hardiness and longevity – especially in exposed areas.

As collaborators, GHD Woodhead completed the redevelopment and builds of specialist wards and a new rehabilitation centre, we researched and assessed the needs of the staff and patients to arrive at plant choices that would both thrive and provide enjoyment for all stakeholders.
