Highlighting stormwater capture and reuse to reduce urban heat and increase recreation
Project OverviewProject Overview
Client City of Mitcham
Scope Concept Design, Documentation
Location Pasadena, SA / Kaurna
Year 2022
This is an important greening and cooling project that uses waste stormwater as a resource to sustainably water Sierra Nevada and Grant Jacobs Reserves in Pasadena which was identified as an urban hot spot.
The project team designed a series of ephemeral swales and detention ponds with rock riffles. Sub surface slotted pipes divert some of the water to naturally irrigate tree planting.
The result is an attractive green open space that significantly increase biodiversity through resilient species choices, reduces urban heat and provides nature play and meandering path networks.
