Creating an environment that hundreds of families are going to call home is a huge responsibility with decisions affecting commercial and community-based interests for decades. Embracing the challenge of designing 8 streetscapes, 4 reserves and a 7.6ha open space to seamlessly complement 200 prestige lot developments meant working with the elements, resources and unique landscape.
By wrapping our designs around the existing landscape we were able to use the 12m descent to add a unique feature to the largest open space, Central Reserve, making it the centrepiece of a local icon. Featuring a lookout and picnic shelter, the reserve attracts both locals and families from neighbouring suburbs with its long tunnel slide flanked my climbing elements. The collaboration with local creatives to develop a strong and recognisable identity with artistic design features and the use of reclaimed and recycled materials maintains a connection with the site’s origins.
