Outerspace project managed a multi-disciplinary team and undertook community presentations, design development and documentation for the City of Onkaparinga’s main war memorial.
The memorial provides a reminder of the sacrifice and service of Australia’s military from the Boer War in the 1890s, to our nation’s more recent involvements in the Gulf War and Afghanistan.
This high- tech memorial includes a water feature and lighting to create a subtle flame effect against the original heritage obelisk.
Different text and fonts reflective of the periods in which different conflict occurred have been shot blast into polished black concrete.
The garden includes sand from the beach at Gallipoli, a lone pine planted and propagated from stock at Gallipoli, rosemary and other symbolic plants.
The redesigned memorial garden provides a focal point where the community and visitors can gather to remember Australians who have served their nation defending democracy and personal freedom.
