Maranao Indigenous Landscape of Friendship
Project OverviewProject Overview
Location Mindanao State University, Marawi, Lanao del Sur, Philippines
The Maranao tribe is known to be an enterprising Islamic group in the Philippines. Alongside this identity is its prominence for being a cliquish and proud tribe. This study aims to continue the inward cultural exchange into something worthy of showcasing to guests and visitors.
Main feature of the design includes an access path that links five key areas, which represent the 5 pillars of Islam. Straight paths connecting platforms at different levels provide direct link to main areas while Islamic geometric forms and the free-flowing Okir motif of the Maranao culture provide a playful contrast to the overall design. Earthworks and proper site grading are critical factors in this project.
