Collaborations Phillips Pilkington Architects
Year 2019
Working in conjunction with Phillips Pilkington, Outerspace Landscape Architects were briefed to revitalise an underutilised courtyard within the school that was directly adjacent newly renovated science classrooms that have direct access to this courtyard. This Courtyard was to be designed for outdoor learning that could accommodate students to occupy during class time and utilise the space for passive recreation outside of classes.
The outdoor learning spaces provide a strong indoor/outdoor connection with the surrounding classrooms which are science labs. The design succeeds in providing complementary teaching and learning opportunities including a shaded, long continuous bench seating with external GPO’s and a stainless-steel sink that allows several classrooms to occupy the space at any one time, allowing the space to be as flexible as possible.
